BELL TELEPHONE HOUR: THE MUSIC OF RICHARD RODGERS - IN COLOR - 1961
Richard Rodgers introduces the program and Ray Bolger presides over this tribute to the composer. Highlights of this program include the following: Anita Darian, Helen Gallagher, Ron Husmann, and Ray Bolger sing a medley of Rodgers and Hart songs, including Rodgers's earliest show tune "Any Old Place with You," "Isn't It Romantic?", "Thou Swell," "This Can't Be Love" and "Manhattan"; Howard Keel sings a medley of love songs, including "With a Song in My Heart," "People Will Say We're in Love" and "If I Loved You" and Dolores Gray continues the medley with "I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy" and "My Funny Valentine," among others; the Bell Telephone Orchestra plays excerpts from "Victory at Sea"; Bolger reminisces about his roles in Rodgers's musicals and recreates his dance to "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" from "On Your Toes"; Martha Wright, Elizabeth Howell and chorus sing excerpts from "The Sound of Music," including the title song and "Climb Every Mountain"; and Richard Rodgers reappears with Bolger to express his thanks and say goodnight.
